Deeply Touched
Today, I saw this patient with lung cancer. He was unable to cough out his phlegm, but when he coughed, you can literally hear the phlegm at the back of his throat. He was a very very very nice uncle. He talked in a gentle and kind manner.
Uncle: Thank you so much for helping me
Me: Uncle, no need to thank me, I will help you as much as I can
Uncle: I am also a human who understands that it is very difficult for you to help other people
Me (with tears in my eyes, trying to wipe them away with my gloved hands, and trying to hide it from him, in case he felt sad about his condition)
I tried with all my might and brain to help him move his phlegm out. I used every single techniques that I learned in school, but I was only able to get out minimal amount of phlegm, much to my dismay....
Uncle (a bit frustrated, shakes head): Cannot come out.
Me: Don't worry, uncle. I will help you as much as I can.
Uncle: Thank you so much. Really thank you so much. (pats my hand)
Me (eyes swell up again).....haiz

Britain's Got Talent - Finals
Did Susan Boyle win?
This is her Semi Final song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CmWCqIVQpEI
But nothing like her very original "I Dreamed a Dream" which she sang for her finals:
Eventhough Susan was definitely very talented, but she faces tough comeptition with other talented people:
a. Diversity (Dancers)
b. Flawless (Dancers)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NY9I6pxnVpM&feature=related
c. Shaheen Jafargholi (Singer)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zXDHEY5BocM&feature=related
d. Hollie Steel (Singer)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HGoWs5mCDXU
e. Julian Smith (Saxophonist)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hajxr8rMAtI
And the result??: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMz03DnirQY
First: Diversity = 100,000 pounds!!!!
Second: Susan Boyle
Third: Julian Smith
Susan was definitely disappointed, but she was very kind by saying "the best people won" and "they are very entertaining".
Anyway, the judges looked disappointed as well, especially Simon. He got that "WTF" look - look at 5:00 of the video.
Eventhough Susan hasn't won the first place, but I think she will definitely make her own album and earn more than the 100,000 pounds.
Bravo, Susan!!

American Idol Finale
Adam definitely has a stronger vocal cord than Kris. But that doesn't mean Kris is second-class quality.
From the comments in youtube, people descirbed Adam's voice as 'throaty', sort of like a shadowy tune behind his normal voice, which is quite uplifting for all the songs that he sang. But, sometimes I felt he was actually screaming through his high notes. Maybe, I am not so used to that kind singing. But I definitely applaud his ability to hold a note for so loooooong. His must have had a massive lung volume for him to scream....err...I mean hold the note for that long, it's at least 10 seconds (from 1.23 to 1.33 of this video).
People are saying that Adam is a gay and doesn't deserve to win. I think people shoudn't mix a competition with a person's personal life. There is not link whatsoever between those two. So what if that person is a gay, but does has a good voice?? Does that mean he don't deserve to win??
Comparing between Adam and Kris, I think they are both good in different ways. Adam has the 'throaty' voice to 'support' his songs. Kris' voice has the smooth, silky feeling that gives a rather comfortable, relaxing atmosphere.
I would say that they will survive in different kind of music industry.
Check out the pre-finale performance by Adam and Kris!

Mat Selamat Not "Selamat" After All

And guess what?? He was caught by Malaysian Police!!! What a suprise! They are finally doing something. For this I might forgive them for not catching the person who stole my mum's handbag.
So now he is held under the country's Internal Security Act. But according to The Straits Time:
"the 48-year-old was tracked down based on intelligence provided by Singapore's Internal Security Department (ISD), and a joint operation by Malaysia and Singapore's security agencies eventually led to his arrest".

The Modern Monk
What does being modern means? Following all the newest trend of technology, dress up following the most up-to-date fashion, listening to the most recent music and watching movies etc.
What does all these means? Just changing according to the flow of the current world.
That means not dressing like this:

But this:

So, that's the approach used by a Chinese Bhuddist monk, Shi Daoxin, to reach out to people.
Talking about religion, the younger generation of today are not very interested or enthusiatic as compared to the older generation, since, most young people in affluent countries have everything that they want. There is no need to seek for help from God. Thus, reaching out to the younger generation can be tough.
The method used by the monk is through songs, by that it doesn't mean spiritual chanting and meditating songs, but songs that mimics chinese pop music - - however, the contents of the lyrics consist of Bhuddist teachings. His songs are played on Chinese national TV and radio, having received thousands of hits on the internet.
I would say this monk is very brave. Having vowed to be a monk and having lived most of his life in the temple, to venture out and do something like this is rather drastic. He might have to face with scorn and disapproval of his fellow monks, for defying the rules and regulations set by the temple. Once he venture out all alone, he need to find people to support his effort, which is not easy. But, I must say he did a good job!
Eventhough many people are criticizing him for being so modern - he wears a sunglass, listens to ipod while walking on the street and replies to email from fans, but he still continue with his work to reach to the younger generation without wavering. Anyway, what's wrong with wearing sunglasses and listening to ipod?? And people even criticised him of chasing fame! Can't people see the good cause behind all his doings? Why does he want to endure all these criticisms just to chase fame? He must have other stronger reasons to do what he is doing.
Daoxin will be releasing his 2nd album this year and money collected will be given to charity.
Thumbs up and all the best to Daoxin!

Snorkelling Experience in Sabah
Susan Boyle
Watch it from youtube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lp0IWv8QZY&feature=related
After watching her video on youtube, I learnt that judgement shoudn't be made by just seeing one's outward appearance.
She doesn't have a very good-looking face, but she looked very motherly and loving. Her inner beauty which can be seen from her taking care of her elderly mother until she passed away at the age of 91. Just for the sake of taking care of her mother, she gave up her singing. She attributed her courage to audition for Britain's Got Talent to her late mother.
Being in front of such a big audience in Britain's Got Talent might be quite nerve-wrecking for someone who hasn't had any experience of being in the spotlight. Her appearance on stage got many cynical expressions from the audience, as can be seen from the youtube video. Most of the people were laughing at her. People must be thinking how can such an old looking person, who outwardly really had no link whatsoever to the word 'talent' appear on stage? Does she really had something good to show us? Or is she one of those who just wants to appear on TV and will perform something of no quality? Even Simon, one of the judge, gave a cynical look when Susan said her age was 47. What's so wrong about being 47? Stop stereotyping against older people.
She totally changed the whole mindset of the people once she sang. Her voice filled the whole auditorium. The audience were suprised! Totally suprised by what a talent she has. That day, her name shot up to fame. She had been interviewed 60 times and her youtube video has been viewed 21 million times!!!
She even had an interview for the early morning show on CBS News. From her interview, she looks really overwhelmed by the fame she has gotten overnight. She doesn't even know how to react to questions asked, giving only short answers, standing rather stiffly in front of the camera. And her voice sounds similarly astounding even early in the morning!

Unluckiest Day Ever....
As if God thinks that this isn't challenging enough for me and put me through another day of tests. These are the days when I do not want to get out of bed but was forced to, and when I get up, it feels like I got up from the wrong side of the bed.
As a foreigner in Singapore, I got to apply for an Employment Pass. So, here's my ordeal (in the form of a timetable):
8:00am: Go to hospital to get my forms and medical check up form
8:45am: Got into the MRT, travelled 2 stops away before realizing that the HR woman didn't
give me my employment pass form, only my PR form. WTF!
9:00am: Back at hospital to get my EP form.
9:10am: Inside hospital's lift to go to MRT station, when to my horror, my medical check-up form is EMPTY! WTF 2! Called the woman and she say 'souli' 100 times and ask me to go back.
9:15am: At the HR department again to get my medical check-up form from 'souli woman'.
10:30am: Reached the Ministry to do my EP. Got my number and waited for 20 minutes.
10:50am: My turn!! Finally.....! Well, spoken too soon, I guess. The nice counter lady told me that the doctor did not tick in the box indicating that I am 'normal', and instead cross out the whole section of 'abnormal'. So? So, I am not allowed to apply until the nice, old, balding doctor tick in the 'normal' boxes. WTF 3!!!!
11:00am: Returning back to the hospital, to see nice, old, balding doctor who doesn't know how to tick.
11:15am: Reached the counter, empty counter with no one. Waited impatiently for 10 minutes before another 'souli lady' came out.
11:25am: Explain my problem (or rather the doctor's problem) to 'souli lady'. She got another doctor to tick and sign for me, coz the other doctor has gone to learn how to tick.
11:35am: 'Souli lady' came out and return me my form, saying a thousand 'souli' until I say 'never mind' and smiled unwillingly.
12:20pm: Reach the Ministry AGAIN!! Took my 2nd number (should buy TOTO) and waited.
12:40pm: My turn. Hope nothing will screw up again.......OK, everything ok! But must wait for 3 hours before they give me my EP. WTF 4!!!
12:50 - 3pm: Had lunch, roam around in shopping mall - wasted damn lots of money, rot in Starbucks.
3:30pm: Finally, my EP is ready.............!!
What a long, long, unlucky day. My feet hurts, my body aches, I am totally exhausted!!
Well, the only positive thing that I can think of is - I had a good workout...!

Everyone in Acting
Credibility comes on how well you acted. How well you maintain the standard that people wants. How well you suit their taste, customs, culture and what they really want. "Standard", that's the word. You have to follow "their" standard, not the ones that you plan for yourself, the way you see things. Because, there is a certain "control" that is needed. Like how the Chinese government control the birth rates in China, that is how people around you controls you and make you fit into the mould that they want. Not what you want.
Life is drama --------- to maintain "standard" --------- and to be "controlled".

Push.....Push.....Puuuusssshhhh!!!!!!!
It's not about delivering baby.......It's about a very very bad behaviour of people whose hobby is puuuusssshhhing. Ever heard of this hobby? To perform it, you need to use both of your hands, bonus points added if you use your shoulders, elbows and hips. All you need to do is just to use a lot of force, transmit it through the body parts that I just mentioned and further transmit it the anything or anyone in front of you.
That's the 'power' that a lady transmitted to me when I was entering the MRT, on one of those days when you feel unlucky........ I was just innocently trying to enter the train when the door opens, when this lady (I should give a really nasty nickname instead - something like 'pusher syndrome lady') from behind suddenly gave a really big nudge from behind. Then, when I was halfway in, I was pushed so hard from behind that I almost felt being thrown forward to whoever was in front of me. WTF! Ok, no swearing...... It's not like the train door was going to close, why does she need to push that way?? And there wans't any empty seats for her to rush for!!! I don't see the point....maybe she is training her upper limbs strength?? Or just trying to perform her 'hobby' innocently.......
When I found a cosy little place for me to stand, I turn around to find the 'pusher syndrome lady'. There she was, standing innocently, not apologetic at all! Well, I decided to forget it, until I the next stop when I was about to get down, another lady was trying to stand up from her seat. The 'pusher syndrome lady' innocently pushed her way through from where she was standing and quickly sat down before the other lady's butt was fully lifted from the seat!!! WT....oops. Another syndrome.......'seat grabbing syndrome'.
What a bad behaviour!! It's kiasuism..............

Unwanted Calls
Today, while I was in school, I got a call from "no number". I thought it was from my family members in Malaysia. Since overseas numbers appear as "no number" on my phone. But my dad just called me like 5 mintues ago.........who the heck is this??
Pick up? Not to pick? Pick up? Not to pick?
Pick up la..............................
Unknown person: Hello, this is calling from XX Relax Travel Agency (in a slang that I can't understand)
Me: (oh oh....not again)
Unknown person: We are giving out a promotion to 50 people who are chosen from our list. There will not be any obligation, no string tied, no fees. You will receive a membership card with a free vacation to Danga Bay, Johor - 1 night stay in a 3-room apartment. You will also receive discount for restaurants and hotels in Singapore once you show this membership card. And you will.......(I can't hear the rest, since it's too slangish and I am not really paying attention)
She kept babbling away for another 10 minutes in a "you owe me" kind of tone, while I just kept walking without hearing to every single word she said until she say....
Unknown (annoying) person: Can I have your block number so that I can deliver the package to you through courier?
Me: Actually I don't simply give out my house address to people I don't know.
Unknown person: Oh..as I said, I am Jennifer XX from the XX Relax Travel Agency (you never told me your name in the first place).
Me: So how did you manage to get my number? How did you all choose the 50 person to receive the promotion package?
Unknown person: Oh...we choose it from a list of people who travelled out of Singapore in the last 5 years (Crazy man...you mean you know all the people who travelled out of Singapore in the last 5 years?? I travel every weekend back to Malaysia.....)
Then we choose 50 people from that list, and you are the 50th person!!! Congratulation!!! (Wah...what a coincidence...I am the 50th person?? Must be my lucky goddess....) We had already despatched 35 promotion packages and had received good feedbacks. We had only 3 time slots to despatch the packages, so please choose from the following time. bla bla bla...
Me: Ok, tonight 8 pm.
Unknown person: OK. I will send the package over and you just need to pay $59.90 for the membership......................
Please prepare the cash when the courier man arrives (in a matter-of-fact tone again...)
What the...........you never told me anything about paying in the first place. And I don't owe you anything, so why keep talking as if I must pay for this membership package?? Anyway, I don't want to Danga Bay and stay for 1 night in a 3-room apartment with ghosts.....and I don't need discounts for hotels and restaurants in Singapore, even if it's real.
Me: I am not free to talk now.
Unknown person: Please talk to my promotion manager.
Promotion manager: Hello, do you need any clarification?
Me: I am not free tonight for the package to be sent over.
Promotion manager: What about day after tomorrow?
Me: I thought there were special time slots for despatching the item?
Promotion manager: Oh...you can also apply online and send you payment by Mastercard
Me: I don't have Mastercard
Promotion manager: Never mind, i will talk to XX manager about this and call you back.
What the.......................DON'T EVER CALL ME BACK!!!
I check on the internet for whatever relax travel agency and the one I found wasn't at the address they stated.
Please stop wasting my time, people. If you want to promote your services or products, please do it during a road show or in places where people can see you, and not cheat people in this kind of way.
